LADY GAGA CALLS ON ‘TECH ROCK STARS’ FOR THEIR COVID-19 SOLUTIONS – (04/09/2020)

Lady Gaga is calling on “Tech Rock Stars” to come together and build a solution to shut down COVID-19.

In a video message created in partnership with the 2020 IBM Call for Code Global Challenge, Gaga said: “We need you right now during COVID-19 more than ever: your time, your talent, to use technology and data to change the world before the world changes us.” “…So I’m asking you to answer the call, build a solution that fights back, that saves lives…I may have the voice but you’re the tech rock stars.”

As part of the challenge, developers are being asked to submit solutions with a focus on three areas: crisis communications, ways to improve remote learning and how to inspire cooperative local communities. The deadline for submissions is April 27th and the winning solutions will be chosen by May 5th, with deployment beginning May 15th.

Prior to her Call for Code appeal, Lady Gaga made the late night talk show rounds to promote another coronavirus effort: the Global Citizen/World Health Organization One World: Together at Home concert. Gaga, who helped curate the event, is one of several superstars who will be part of the April 18th show, which will also include appearances from Lizzo, Paul McCartney, Elton John, J Balvin, Kacey Musgraves and many more.

Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert will serve as hosts for the special, which will air on each of their respective networks, NBC, ABC and CBS, as well as several others channels and streaming services.

TAYLOR SWIFT SENDS LONGTIME FAN $3,000 AMID CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC – (04/08/2020)

Taylor Swift surprised a longtime fan and college student with $3,000.

Jess Buslewicz, a sophomore at Smith College in Massachusetts, had to return home to Connecticut due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus. She lost her job as an on-campus tour guide and her babysitting job, both of which helped pay for her school books and tuition. Her mother has also lost much of her work as a travel agent.

Buslewicz, a massive Swift fan since the age of 7, has runs a blog on Tumblr dedicated to the singer, and turned to it amid the pandemic. She said, “One day I was sitting on the couch and I got a PayPal notification that there was $3,000 in my account!” adding, “There’s a little message with it and at the end she said, ‘p.s. it may be April 1st but this is not an April Fools joke!’ and without that little addendum I think I would’ve been a lot more nervous that it was a joke.”

“I’m pretty sure I blacked out for like I remember seeing the notification and then the next five minutes. I have no recollection,” Buslewicz told Page Six.

“Jess, I saw your post about everything you’re going through, I’m sorry you lost your campus job. I can see that this situation has caused you intense anxiety and I hope this gift of $3,000 will help and that you and your mom are healthy and safe. Sending you hugs, Taylor,” the singer wrote in the message section, according to a screenshot Buslewicz posted.

In an Instagram post, Joe, Nick and Kevin Jonas send their love and good wishes to the kids.

“We know a lot of these wishes have been canceled with everything that has been going on, but we just hope you know that you are loved and we think you guys are the greatest,” Kevin said.

Brother Nick then offered his words of advice. “I know these are tough times, confusing times, but I think the thing that’s helping me through it – and maybe this will help all of you – is I’ve been spending some time just writing,” he shared. “It could be in a journal, it could be a short story or a poem or a song. Whatever brings you happiness, that’s the thing to focus on right now.”

Joe added: “I hope this video brings you some joy like all the Make-a-Wish kids bring me and my brothers so much joy when we get to meet you.”

Make-A-Wish is also inviting everyone to share a “creative message of hope” to encourage kids who are waiting for their wishes. Post them and tag @MakeAWishAmerica and #WishesAreWaiting.

PINK RECOVERS FROM CORONAVIRUS, DONATES $1M TO HELP OTHERS – (04/06/2020)

Pink announced that she and her son have recovered from the coronavirus and she donated $1 million to organizations helping other people affected by the pandemic.

She gifted $500,000 each to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia and City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency COVID-19 Crisis Fund.

“It is an absolute travesty and failure of our government to not make testing more widely accessible,” she wrote in her post Friday. “This illness is serious and real. People need to know that the illness affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor, and we must make testing free and more widely accessible to protect our children, our families, our friends and our communities,” she said. “THANK YOU to all of our healthcare professionals and everyone in the world who are working so hard to protect our loved ones. You are our heroes! These next two weeks are crucial: please stay home. Please. Stay. Home.”

The message accompanied a photo of Pink with her 3-year-old son, Jameson. They were both tested for the virus two weeks ago after they experienced symptoms. Pink said she tested positive, but Jameson did not. They were both recently re-tested and were both negative.

Pink and Jameson, each became “really, really sick,” she said Saturday during a live video chat with author Jen Pastiloff.

“There were many nights when I’ve cried and I’ve never prayed more in my life,” Pink said during a social media livestream. “It’s funny, it’s like, at one point, I heard myself saying, ‘I thought they promised us our kids would be OK.’ It’s not guaranteed. There is no one that is safe from this.”

Pink said she’s battled asthma throughout her life, and that she used Nebulizers, which are a form of breathing therapy, during her fight with coronavirus.
