LEONARDO DICAPRIO, OPRAH WINFREY & MORE LAUNCH CORONAVIRUS FUND – (04/03/2020)
Leonardo DiCaprio, Oprah Winfrey and Laurene Powell Jobs are partnering on a multi-million fund to help those most affected by COVID-19. DiCaprio and Powell Jobs each donated $5 million, Apple donated $5 million, and Winfrey and the Ford Foundation donated $1 million apiece.
Dubbed America’s Food Fund, it will work jointly with established food relief nonprofits World Central Kitchen and Feeding America.
In a statement, DiCaprio said: “In the face of this crisis, organizations like World Central Kitchen and Feeding America have inspired us all with their unwavering commitment to feed the most vulnerable people in need. I thank them for their tireless work on the frontlines, they deserve all of our support.”
In a statement Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America said: “Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, 37 million people in this country did not have consistent access to nutritious meals—including 11 million children and 5.5 million seniors. These numbers are quickly rising, and it is critical that we rally together as a nation to support our neighbors during this time of great need.”
The Fund launched a GoFundMe page that explained its ethos: “In neighborhoods and communities around the country, hunger is an issue that people, including families and children, face every day. Our most vulnerable populations — children who are out of school and rely on school lunch programs, low-income families, the elderly, and individuals facing job disruptions — face great barriers to receiving safe and consistent access to meals.”

Winfrey is doing more than contribute $1 million to one fund though. She is also donating an additional $9 million to other relief efforts across the country.

SONY ESTABLISHES $100M COVID-19 FUND: Sony Corp. has launched a $100 million fund for coronavirus. Titled the Sony Global Relief Fund for COVID-19, they will target three main areas: healthcare providers, children and educators and creatives who have been affected. According to Deadline, SPE Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra sent his employees a memo writing: “Our Corporate Social Responsibility team is working closely with Sony Corp to determine the best path forward for distributing funds in the entertainment space. As you have all seen, the need for support during this crisis is unprecedented, and we are exploring several options, looking for ideas — with existing relief organizations, SPE partners, and our own executives internally — to determine what will have the most meaningful impact. We will update everyone as soon as possible on our distribution plans and how employees can participate in the matching gift program.”
KESHA POSTPONES HIGH ROAD TOUR DUE TO COVID-19: Kesha announced that her High Road tour is being postponed due to COVID-19. In a message posted to social media, she apologized to fans and promised to reschedule for later this year. The trek was supposed to kick off April 23rd in Sugar Land, Texas. Kesha advised fans to hold on to their tickets as information on new dates will be announced soon.
LAUV DROPS ACOUSTIC VERSION OF ‘MODERN LONELINESS’ TO BENEFIT CRISIS RELIEF EFFORTS – (04/03/2020)
Lauv has dropped an acoustic version of his single “Modern Loneliness” to help benefit Partners in Health pandemic relief efforts.
“Modern Loneliness” was written as both a statement and a commentary on society and our relationships with social media, where we are increasingly “alone together.” In addition to taking part in live-streams with Global Citizen and Twitch, Lauv also held an at-home live-stream concert on his YouTube channel and raised an additional $12k after matching every dollar that was raised. In total between the merch bundle and livestreams, Lauv has raised over $30k so far.
All future streams and revenue from the acoustic “Modern Loneliness” will be going to the relief efforts as well.
Lauv performed the single on both The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America. The track is off his 21-track debut album ~how i’m feeling~ that was released on March 6th and has been streamed over 100 million times since its release and had a Top 20 chart debut around the world, including in the U.S., UK, Australia and Canada.

JUSTIN BIEBER’S ENTIRE 2020 TOUR POSTPONED DUE TO GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS – (04/02/2020)
The current health crisis has forced Justin Bieber to postpone all of his 2020 dates for The Changes Tour.”
“He asks that fans hold on to their tickets, as they will be honored as soon as the dates are rescheduled. Information on rescheduled dates will be forthcoming soon,” a statement on his website read.
“While Justin – along with his band, dancers and crew – has been hard at work preparing an amazing show, he has always put the health and well-being of his fans first and foremost. Justin is anxiously awaiting the opportunity to get back out on the road and perform in a space that is safe for everyone.”
Justin was set to kick off the tour on May 14th and the tour was intended to last until September.
The 26-year-old singer released his fifth studio album Changes – his first album in five years – in February.

Demi Lovato is launching a new collection with Fabletics today.
She also announced that $5 for every item sold from her new Fabletics collection – up to $125K total – will go towards the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
“I’ve really been going back and forth on if this was the right time… but decided this is a time to provide inspiration for my fans at home and to help those in need,” she wrote on Instagram. “We’ve decided to share it with you soon-with a twist: I’m pleased to announce that for $5 for every item sold will provide crucial gear to frontline workers-pledging up to $125,000 now through June 30th to support the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization, powered by the United Nations Foundation…I hope you’ll join me on our journey to project positivity, build inner strength and boost each other up!”

JAY Z TEAMS UP WITH RIHANNA TO DONATE $2 MILLION TO CORONAVIRUS RELIEF EFFORTS – (04/01/2020)
Jay Z has teamed up with Rihanna to donate to coronavirus relief efforts. The superstars have each donated $1 million — Jay Z via his Shawn Carter Foundation and Rihanna is giving back through her Clara Lionel Foundation. The Shawn Carter Foundation revealed in a statement that the donation will support undocumented workers, children of frontline healthcare workers and first responders, and incarcerated, elderly and homeless people in New York and Los Angeles.
According to Billboard, the money will also cover daycare, learning materials, food, and supplies for the children of healthcare workers and first responders. Additionally, they will provide learning materials for over 20,000 youth in shelters and virtual mental health support for parents.
Gloria Carter, CEO and co-founder of the Shawn Carter Foundation, said in a statement, “In times of crisis it is imperative that we come together as one community to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to critical needs: shelter, health, nutrition, and education. The only way to get through this pandemic is with love and action.”
Rihanna previously announced a $5 million donation to various organizations including Feeding America, World Health Organization, and her native Barbados.
JOHN MAYER DROPS ‘DRONE SHOT OF MY YACHT’ PARODY SONG ABOUT BILLIONAIRE DAVID GEFFEN – (04/01/2020)
John Mayer posted a parody song lampooning a tone-deaf Instagram post by billionaire David Geffen.
Mayer released the track, “Drone Shot of My Yacht,” following the 77-year-old businessman and philanthropist’s post over the weekend. Geffen went private on Instagram after revealing that he has been isolating on a yacht in the Grenadines, islands in the Caribbean.
He was slammed for showing off his wealth and privilege as millions of other people are struggling with unemployment and healthcare workers are fighting for their lives while trying to save others.
Even Meghan McCain of The View blasted Geffen when he shared a photo of his $590-million mega-yacht off the coast of the Grenadines, revealing that’s where he’s self-isolating during the coronavirus pandemic. Geffen deleted his Instagram soon after.
“If it’s stuck in my head, it might as well be stuck in yours,” John captioned an Instagram video featuring his parody song and a slideshow of yacht photos. “Drone shot of my yacht, it’s all I got, I’m all alone on the water,” he sings in the parody. “Let me flex these specs,” he continues, “450 feet and six or seven decks. You can stretch your neck, to see all the stuff around me, I don’t give a heck.”
Business Insider reported that billionaires were flocking to charter superyachts so they can escape the coronavirus pandemic. Yachts are generally assumed to be cleaner than standard cruise ships because of rigorous maintenance routines, but they can be pricey to charter. Some go for $120,000 a week plus crew costs, while others can set you back as much as $600,000 a week.

NEW JERSEY DRAGGED FOR DEPLOYING MIKE SORRENTINO AS CORONAVIRUS EXEMPLAR – (04/01/2020)
Really, he’s all ya got? Twitter was alternatively outraged and bemused over the New Jersey government’s decision to use Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino as an exemplar of good behavior during the coronavirus crisis.
The state shared Sorrentino’s sage words of advice on its official Twitter page. The state tweeted: “WE GOT A SITUATION. Listen to @ItstheSituation – we know Jersey loves to party but TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY. STAY HOME and #FlattenTheCurve. The comeback is always greater than the setback.”
In the post, Sorrentino said: “New Jersey is tough…We love to party and we love even harder. But the time for parties is over. In fact, some of us are prolonging this pandemic by not following simple guidelines.”
New Jersey, along with many other states, has issued an executive order prohibiting parties and social events; residents are told to only leave their homes when necessary.
Many critics noted Sorrentino’s stint in prison as a reason to not use him as an example for young people. “ANYONE BUT THIS DOOFUS! Come on @NJGov you can do better,” one tweet read. “I’m just not a big fan of taking advice from criminals. I’ll stick with scientists and healthcare providers. We have REALLY good scientists and healthcare providers in NJ,” another added.

PRINCE WILLIAM WANTS TO PILOT AIR AMBULANCES DURING PANDEMIC – (04/01/2020)
Prince William wants to return to his work as air ambulance pilot as the coronavirus pandemic escalates, according to reports. The 37-year-old royal spent two years flying medics to emergencies before stepping down in 2017.
A source tells The Sun: “He knows the whole country is doing its bit and he wants to help. William is very keen to do anything he can.”
William, his wife Kate Middleton and their three children are staying in Anmer Hall in Norfolk, where he was living when he flew the air ambulance.
However, some say William is one of the only senior royals left performing official duties, making his absence more challenging. His 71-year-old father Prince Charles was diagnosed with coronavirus himself and is now recovering, and his 93-year-old grandmother Queen Elizabeth is in seclusion to protect her at her advanced age. In addition, his brother Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle recently stepped down from their royal roles and Prince Andrew, his uncle, has been barred from royal life due to his connections to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Earlier this month, William became patron of the London Air Ambulance Charity.

KYLIE JENNER TO MAKE SANITIZER: Kylie Jenner is doing what she can to help out during the pandemic. Last week, she donated $1 million to buy protective gear, and now she, momager Kris Jenner and Coty are partnering to manufacture hand sanitizer for hospitals in southern California. “The custom hand sanitizer includes a special message for recipients: ‘Dedicated to first responders working to support our communities,’” according to a press release.
