TAYLOR SWIFT REVEALS HER MOM HAS A BRAIN TUMOR – (01/22/2020)

Taylor Swift has revealed that her mother, Andrea, has a brain tumor.

Swift, who has spoken about her mother’s battle with cancer over the years, told Variety in a new interview that while her mother was going through treatment, “they found a brain tumor.”

“And the symptoms of what a person goes through when they have a brain tumor is nothing like what we’ve ever been through with her cancer before. So it’s just been a really hard time for us as a family,” Swift said.

Andrea Swift has become a recognizable figure among Taylor’s die-hard fans, with some of them even posting about her online. She is often seen smiling by her daughter’s side at award shows and in public.

“Everyone loves their mom; everyone’s got an important mom,” Swift, 30, told Variety. “But for me, she’s really the guiding force. Almost every decision I make, I talk to her about it first. So obviously it was a really big deal to ever speak about her illness.”

Taylor confirmed that her mom’s health is the reason she won’t be going on a full tour for her latest album Lover.

COLDPLAY’S CHRIS MARTIN GOES OFF ON AUTOGRAPH SEEKERS – (01/22/2020)

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin unloaded on a couple of autograph collectors following a benefit show by the British band in Los Angeles on Monday night (January 20th).

According to TMZ, Martin was approached by what was described as several “assertive” autograph seekers shortly after the show. Instead of going patiently through the motions, Martin snapped at them and asked that they show him some “decency” after he played what he called a “s**tty” gig.

Martin did take a moment to collect himself and settled down quickly, proceeding to sign some items before hurriedly walking away.

The concert itself was a benefit for Reform LA Jails, which campaigns for alternatives to incarceration and prison reform. Coldplay’s intimate, 19-song set at the Hollywood Palladium featured a healthy serving of songs from the band’s new LP Everyday Life, as well as a few rarities.

One of those songs, the early fan favorite “Amsterdam,” was abandoned after Martin forgot the lyrics — prompting him to beg the audience, “Please don’t put this on YouTube.” Perhaps he was still thinking about it when he got hit up for his signature after the show.

ROB LOWE OFFENDS SPORTS FANS EVERYWHERE WITH HIS HAT – (01/21/2020)

On Sunday night, Rob Lowe attended the San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers game in a bid to fight for a spot at the Super Bowl. (San Fran won 37-20). But on Twitter, all eyes were on Lowe, and his hat.

Lowe opted for a hat bearing the NFL shield logo. For many, this was the height of outrage, as pre-Super Bowl games are seen as the time to pick a side, any side, and wear their pride in said side in the form of hats, shirts, pins, banners and other ephemera.

Lowe was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, then raised in Dayton, Ohio, then moved to Malibu. He is a known Indianapolis Colts fan, so no technical connection to anyone playing, but that didn’t stop Twitter from raking him over the coals.

Said one wit: “Rob Lowe loves all 32 teams equally”.

Another observed: “Full list of people who own generic NFL caps: 1. Roger Goodell 2. Referees 3. Rob Lowe”.

Lowe himself saw his name trending and rejoined: “I didn’t expect my hat to be the most interesting part of this game!”

‘PARASITE’ MAKES SAG AWARD HISTORY – (01/20/2020)

Korean thriller Parasite made history at the 26th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards last night, becoming the first foreign-language film to win Best Motion Picture Cast. Parasite is just the second foreign language film to score an ensemble nomination in the history of the SAG Awards, following the 1997 Italian movie Life Is Beautiful.

In another streaming stride, Netflix’s The Crown nabbed Best TV Drama and Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel took home Best TV Comedy.

In a repeat of the Golden Globes, Renee Zellweger (Judy) and Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) won for their leading film roles, while Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) and Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) surprised with their drama series victories. Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and Tony Shalhoub (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) took home trophies in their comedy series categories.

Other highlights from the show:

The SAG Awards remained hostless but Eugene and Dan Levy bookended the awards by presenting the first award and kicking the “I Am an Actor” segment up a notch.

During Brad Pitt’s acceptance speech for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, the actor joked about how his character in the film “was a difficult part. The guy who gets high, takes his shirt off and doesn’t get on with his wife.” After cracking the joke, a camera panned to his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, who smiled lovingly and clapped. “I’ve got to add this to my Tinder profile,” Pitt joked at the start of his speech, referring to the statuette. Following Pitt’s acceptance speech, the actor was spotted backstage watching Aniston accept her own prize for The Morning Show – marking the first win for fledgling programming service Apple TV+.

Heath Ledger received a heartfelt shout out from Joaquin Phoenix as the “Joker” star accepted the award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. Ledger famously portrayed the comic book villain in 2008’s “The Dark Knight” and won numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. With his win, Phoenix, an Oscar nominee, is on the way to collecting the same trio of awards for the role. “Really, I’m standing here on the shoulders of my favorite actor, Heath Ledger,” he said. Ledger died in 2008 from an accidental overdose. He was 28.

The ceremony speeches were mostly more personal than political. That changed briefly when Robert De Niro accepted his award, giving defense to actors wading into the public arena, offering no apology for having “a bigger voice” because of his stardom, noting, “As a citizen, I have as much right as anybody … to voice my opinion.”

SAG-AFTRA Foundation president Courtney B. Vance announced that Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg had pledged a $250,000 matching donation to the foundation in response to Vance’s call to raise an addition $1.5 million for the national nonprofit organization.
