‘THE LION KING’ ROARS TO THE TOP OF THE BOX OFFICE – (07/22/2019)

The House of Mouse had an epic weekend. Not only did The Lion King become the biggest July film of all time, but Avengers: Endgame became the highest grossing film of all time.

The Lion King, starring Beyonce and Donald Glover, raked in $185 million. Disney now owns 12 of the top 13 openers of all time. (Jurassic World is the lone non-Disney holdout). 

Critics are split, with a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences are eating it up. Globally, The Lion King has brought in $531 million, already making it the 7^th best haul this year. 

Anthony & Joe Russo’s Avengers surpassed James Cameron’s Avatar record this weekend, bringing in $854.21 million domestically and $2.79 billion worldwide.
