16th Annual Ice Harvest & Winter Carnival

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 16, 2019 | 11AM–3PM

Take part in a New England tradition & enjoy timeless wintertime fun!

  • Participate in traditional ice block cutting, piking and hoisting
  • Look on as yolked teams of working steers transport ice blocks to the Ice House
  • Celebrate winter with outdoor/indoor activities and family-friendly games
  • Meet and greet farm animals in their winter coats and surroundings
  • Visit with Chinook dogs and learn about their local history with the Chinook Owners Association
  • Listen to live music by Brier Hill Band in the Hearth Room — dancing welcome
  • Try your hand at a winter-themed craft or go on a scavenger hunt
  • See demonstrations of step-by-step ice harvesting, outdoor cooking (samples too), and ice sculpting by Brian Stockman
  • Take a ride on antique Model A and Model T Ford snowmobiles
    • Provided by The Model T Ford Snowmobile Club: based in neighboring Ossipee, NH, where the original car-to-snowmobile conversion kits were invented—click the “Brief History” tab on their website to learn more The club has determined that current conditions on the ground are not conducive to providing safe rides and protecting the antique machines. However, rest assured that the snowmobiles will be on display and provide a fun, interactive exhibit.
  • Build a snowman, snowcow, or…  let your imagination soar (dependent on snow conditions)
  • Take in outdoor exhibits of:
    • Winter Camping & Accompanying Gear
    • Wintertime Animal Trapping and Lore
    • Snowshoes Through Time
    • An Ice Boat from the New Hampshire Boat Museum
    • A Bob House/Ice Fishing Shack
    • An Antique Snow Roller
  • Take a self-guided tour of the Museum Center: 
    • Watch an ice harvesting video
    • Take in our ice harvesting history exhibit 
    • Learn about Remick Family history
    • Engage with the “Our Medicine Through Time” exhibit—samples at the Winter Apothecary
  • Warm up with a Remick-made lunch and other treats (see the menu, below)

COST: $10/person, ages 11 & above | $5/child ages 5–10 | 4 & under, FREE
Members receive $2 off admission
*If the ice is not safe, visitors will not be allowed on the ice. No matter the conditions, ice harvesting demonstrations will occur.
