Between 2 Gates
Listeners will be able to meet three Olympian Skiers at Between 2 Gates, a benefit for the Mt. Washington Valley Ski Team this Saturday. Doors open at 5 PM at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center with Leanne Smith, Nolan Casper, and Andru Weibrecht in attendance. There will also be catering, adult beverages, an auction and raffle going on. Leanne Smith is looking to inspire attendees. She says, “What’s important for us to get across to the young athletes and other athletes in the room on Saturday night is that anything is accomplishable. And going out and working hard and following those dreams- even when they feel like they’re right within reach or not- it’s always important to keep your head down and working toward it.” Listeners can get tickets online at mwvskiteam.com.

Wolfeboro Water Rescue
Wolfeboro’s Fire-Rescue and Police Departments, and Stewart’s Ambulance Service, responded to a bridge construction site on Pleasant Valley Road yesterday after a report of a motor vehicle accident. Someone involved in the accident was injured and had gone into the water, although authorities haven’t identified if they were the driver or a passenger in the vehicle. Wolfeboro’s Fire-Rescue Department pulled the patient out of the water with cold water rescue suits, ladders, webbing, and a backboard, before stabilizing them. The process reportedly took 12 minutes to pull the patient from the water after the Fire-Rescue Personnel arrived. The patient was flown to Portland for medical treatment. Authorities say the incident remains under investigation.

Sense of Place: Building Partnerships and Maintaining Trails
Jim Innes is a District Ranger for the Forest Service. He’s helping to organize a series of forums in the Mt. Washington Valley to give residents a sense of what’s happening on their public lands and how they can get involved. Innes says, “I speak with the public a lot. In those discussions, and listening to others that I work with, it became apparent that the public really doesn’t have a good idea of what’s going on on their public lands. And I don’t mean just the Forest Service but I mean all the conservancy land here. Upper Saco Valley Land Trust, Chocorua Lake Conservancy, State land, TNC- the Nature Conservancy, so I thought it would be good for us to tell that story.” The first meeting in a series of meetings being called Sense of Place will be tomorrow (2/5/20) at Tuckerman Brewing Company from 6 to 7:30 in the evening.
