Fryeburg Domestic Disturbance Arrest
Police in Fryeburg say they’ve arrested an armed suspect following a domestic disturbance. Sidrick Thurlow of Chocorua was arrested following a domestic disturbance call. Police say the 54-year-old New Hampshire man arrived at the residence of a 50-year-old female, had a loaded gun, and was threatening the life of a 56-year-old man from Brownfield. Fryeburg Police say they seized a 38 caliber handgun from Thurlow at the scene. Thurlow is currently being charged for Aggravated Reckless Conduct, Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Threatening Display of a Dangerous Weapon, and terrorizing. Fryeburg Police Chief Joshua Potvin said he was pleased that the incident was ended peacefully, giving credit to his officers for the resolution. He says, “Whenever weapons are involved in emotionally charged events such as domestic violence situations it poses additional risks to all those involved.”
Music Fans Lost Two Greats Over The Weekend
EDDIE MONEY PASSES AWAY AT 70: 1970s and ‘80s pop star Eddie Money died on Friday. He was 70. The news comes shortly after Money postponed his ongoing tour in July, and after he later revealed his stage 4 esophageal cancer diagnosis. Money’s breakout success came with his self-titled debut album in 1977, which featured the charting singles “Two Tickets to Paradise” and “Baby Hold On.” He again had a hit with 1986’s “Take Me Home Tonight.” Money has since been public about his drug and alcohol abuse during those years, but he underwent rehab in the early 2000s. Since 2018, Money and his family had appeared on a reality TV show called Real Money. Money underwent “minor” heart valve surgery in May, and while his family said he was “recovering and doing well” in July, he did postpone all his tour dates and the release of his upcoming album.
THE CARS FRONTMAN RIC OCASEK PASSES AWAY AT 75: Ric Ocasek, the lead singer of the new wave band The Cars, died Sunday in New York City. He was 75. Ocasek was found unconscious and unresponsive in his Manhattan home late Sunday afternoon and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He appears to have died of natural causes, sources told Page Six, and was discovered by his estranged wife, model Paulina Porizkova. The Cars, known for their hits “Drive,” “Just What I Needed,” and “It’s All I Can Do,” were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Ocasek was also a successful producer, working with everyone from Weezer to No Doubt to Bad Brains. The Cars’ biggest commercial breakthrough was 1984’s Heartbeat City. The album, co-produced by Mutt Lange and solely written by Ocasek, went to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and yielded five top 40 singles, including the top 10 hits “Drive” and “You Might Think.” The video for the latter song won Video of the Year at the first annual MTV Video Music Awards, beating out Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.”

‘HUSTLERS’ DANCES TO A $33.2 MILLION OPENING – (09/16/2019)
Hustlers scored the biggest weekend ever for STXFilms. The stripper saga starring Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles and Keke Palmer, raked in around $33.2 million, which is the biggest opening a Lopez-led live action film has ever had too.
The film follows the story of former strip club dancers, organized by J.Lo, who begin swindling Wall Street clients for extra dough. The show bowed at Toronto International Film Festival and garnered enthusiastic reviews.
Still, Hustlers couldn’t shake down It: Chapter Two, which snagged $40.7 million in its second weekend out. Newbie Goldfinch bombed after a critical trouncing. It grabbed around $2.6 million, despite its star-studded cast (Ansel Elgort, Aneurin Barnard, Nicole Kidman and Sarah Paulson) and the popularity of the Donna Tartt novel of the same name that it was based on.

The Attack and Reaction
18 years ago a coordinated attack by al Qaeda took the lives of 2,977 people and changed the American landscape forever. A week later, then-President George W. Bush signed into law a joint resolution authorizing military force against unspecified nations, organizations, or persons involved in the attack. The result was the War in Afghanistan after the Taliban refused to surrender Osama Bin Laden and other leaders of al Qaeda involved in the terrorist attack.
Motivations behind the attack remain debated. Bin Laden had been responsible for a number of attacks against the United States with, according to al Qaeda, a specific goal of coaxing America into war with the Middle East. Separate reports cite Bin Laden’s goal as wanting to make the United States less supportive of its allies in the Middle East. Whether we believe that Bin Laden wanted to weaken American resolve and get the nation to withdraw support, or we believe that the purpose of the attack was to create a common “crusader” enemy to unite the Middle East’s Islamic population against, al Qaeda failed. The United States became more involved in the region and terrorist factions of the middle east continue to have infighting including the creation of the infamous Islamic State group. Lesser known affiliates of al Qaeda, such as al Nusra, also continue to splinter off despite fighting common enemies.
