Accident on West Fryeburg Road
Fryeburg Police say a Jeep rolled over off West Fryeburg Road shortly after noon on Tuesday (8/20/19). Officials say a 16-year-old girl from Lovell, Maine had been driving her 2008 Jeep SUV south on West Fryeburg Road when she became temporarily distracted, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. Her Jeep struck a culvert and rolled over, closing West Fryeburg road for over an hour while emergency crews responded. The girl was transported to Memorial Hospital in North Conway, NH with non-life-threatening injuries. Fryeburg Police Chief Joshua Potvin says it was fortunate that the accident wasn’t worse and reminded the public that distracted driving can involve more than just texting on your cell phone. He says drivers shouldn’t be involved in any activity that isn’t necessary to the safe operation of their vehicle.

GOOD BOYS LEADS BIG WEEKEND WITH $21M – (08/19/2019)
The Bean Bag Boys, the nickname for the trio of pals in Universal’s Good Boys are ruling the box office. Good Boys picked up more than $21 million in its opening weekend, exceeding expectations. Production for the film cost $20 million.
The Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg-produced movie is the first comedy to open in first place since 2016’s The Boss, and the biggest opening for an original comedy this year.
“The bottom line is the film is absolutely hysterical,” said Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg knocked it out of the park. And [Rogen and Goldberg] are a brand and really own this space with a very difficult genre.”
Hobbs & Shaw, the Fast & Furious spinoff featuring the Rock, snagged $14.1 million and took second place. Four other newbies struggled. The Angry Birds Movie 2 finished with $10.5 million after a slow Tuesday start, while 47 Meters Down: Uncaged earned $9 million, Blinded by the Light grabbed just $4.5 million and Where’d You Go, Bernadette, starring Cate Blanchett, earned a disastrous $3.45 million.

Bernie Sanders visits New Hampshire
US Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders still has one more stop before he leaves New Hampshire today. He’ll be at the Littleton Opera House for an Ice Cream Social 1:00 this afternoon to wrap up his tour of New Hampshire where he’s a strong contender against Democratic frontrunner and former Vice President Joe Biden. He previously stopped by the North Conway Community Center and the White Mountain Chalet in Berlin. For the second time in a row it seems the Democratic primaries have become a contest between an established party leader and populist Progressives. Right now, the Real Clear Politics average of national polls places Sanders in third place for the Democratic primary, just behind another populist Progressive: Elizabeth Warren. Together they poll higher than Biden’s strong lead of 30% but splitting that percentage each one rests at roughly half making early wins like New Hampshire crucial for the Sanders and Warren campaigns to convince the other to bow out.

‘HOBBS & SHAW’ WINS BOX OFFICE WITH $25M – (08/12/2019)
Fast & Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw landed at the top of the box office for the second week in a row, grossing $25.4 million, beating five newbies who bowed this weekend. Overseas, Universal’s Dwayne Johnson vehicle took in another $60.8 million, for a total haul of $332.6 million.
Of the newbies, Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark was the only one to outperform expectations with $20.8 million. Andre Ovredal directed the adaptation of the best-selling horror series for kids; Guillermo del Toro produced and co-wrote, along with the books’ author, Alvin Schwartz.
“The filmmakers and the team at CBS Films are thrilled that moviegoers are embracing the world of Scary Stories. It’s particularly satisfying to see families experiencing the fun of the movie together,” del Toro said in a statement.
The other kid-friendly film, Dora and the Lost City of Gold, opened in fourth place with $17 million.
Quentin Tarantino and Sony‘s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, now in its third outing, came in fifth with $11.6 million for a domestic haul of $100 million.
