WOLFEBORO, NH – A Rochester woman was arrested for scamming a scammer in Wolfeboro. Wolfeboro Police said that in March a Wolfeboro resident had reported having their identity stolen and the hacker had purchased a laptop using the victims business account. The scam had been perpetrated by someone in another country, who then turned to a shipping scam to get the computer shipped to them.
51-year-old Jennifer Wozmak, who was not affiliated with the scammer, was contacted via the internet for a “job opportunity” in which she was paid to pick up the package at UPS and then reship it to another location.
Wozmak allegedly picked up the package at the UPS in Laconia, but instead of shipping the computer Wozmak allegedly filled a shipping box with magazines and kept the computer.
Police said that Wozmak admitted to taking the computer and selling it.
She was charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking and was released on $1000 personal recognizance.
